Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 6995

Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever a Muslim takes charge of any affair of the Muslims, Allah Almighty sends to him two angels who guide him aright as long as he intends the truth; and when he deliberately intends injustice, the two of them leave him to himself."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Janah, the freed slave of al-Walid, whom al-Azdi declared da'if (weak).
