Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Being told is not like seeing with one's own eyes (that is, news one has heard is not like witnessing it oneself; an example of this is that) when Allah Almighty informed Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) that the people of his nation had (begun worshipping) the calf, he did not put the "Tablets" (on which the Torah was written) aside; but when he witnessed the conduct of his people himself, he put the "Tablets" aside, and they broke."
Imam Ahmad, Imam al-Bazzar, and Imam Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, and Ibn Hibban declared it sahih (authentic).
