Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, saying: It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Shibl (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Recite the Qur'an, do not go to extremes in it, do not turn away from it, do not eat by means of it, and do not seek to amass (wealth) through it." (He said:) I also heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Indeed, the merchants are the sinners." The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! Has Allah Almighty not made buying and selling lawful?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, indeed! But (the matter is that) when these people talk they lie, and they swear oaths and fall into sin." (He said:) I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Indeed, the fussaq (sinful) are the people of the Fire." The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! Who are the fussaq?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Women." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! Are these women not our mothers, our sisters and our wives?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, indeed! But when they are given something they are not grateful, and when they are tested they are not patient." The narrators of all these reports are thiqat (trustworthy). In the chapter on Manners (Adab) it is narrated through another chain, as a longer narration than this one.
