Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Never try to please anyone at the cost of Allah's displeasure, do not praise anyone for the bounty of Allah Almighty, and do not blame anyone for what Allah Almighty has not given you; for the greed of a greedy person will not bring provision to you, and the dislike of one who dislikes will not turn it away from you. Indeed, Allah Almighty, by His equity and justice, has placed comfort and joy in contentment and certainty, and has placed grief and anxiety in discontent."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Khalid bin Yazid al-Umari, who was accused of fabricating hadith.
