Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 5795

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Madinah is a sanctuary." Then the narrator mentioned the full hadith, and a narrator named Humayd reported these words in it: "No weapon shall be carried in it for fighting."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) is mentioned in the "Sahih", but without mention of carrying weapons.
Imam Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Mu'ammal bin Isma'il, who has been declared trustworthy, though he has been criticised.
