Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 566

Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People will set out from the East and the West (from various regions) in pursuit of knowledge, but they will not find a scholar more learned than the scholar of Madinah (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the words are:) the scholar of the people of Madinah."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil, who is da'if (weak) according to most (scholars).
