Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Asim al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), during the Farewell Hajj, on the middle day of the Days of Tashriq, saying in the course of his sermon: "Is this a sacred day?" The people replied: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The sanctity among you is like the sanctity of this day of yours. Shall I tell you who a Muslim is? A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the other Muslims are safe. Shall I tell you who a believer is? A believer is the one from whom the Muslims are safe with regard to their lives and their wealth. Shall I tell you who an emigrant (muhajir) is? An emigrant is the one who keeps away from evil deeds, those evil deeds which Allah Almighty has made forbidden for him. A believer is sacred to another believer just as the sanctity of this day. His flesh is sacred to the other, that he should eat it by backbiting him in his absence; his honour is sacred to the other, that he should violate it; his face is sacred to the other, that he should slap it; harming him is forbidden to the other, that he should cause him harm; and it is also forbidden to him that he should push him aside in a way that causes him distress."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a female narrator, Karamah bint al-Husayn, and I have not found anyone who mentions her.
