Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 557

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever a servant puts on shoes, or puts on leather socks, or puts on clothes (before setting out) in pursuit of knowledge, then as soon as he steps over the threshold of his door, Allah Almighty forgives him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Isma'il bin Yahya al-Taymi, who is a liar.
