Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 531

وَعَنْ حِزَامِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " أَصْبَحْتُمْ فِي زَمَانٍ ، كَثِيرٌ فُقَهَاؤُهُ قَلِيلٌ خُطَبَاؤُهُ ، كَثِيرٌ مُعْطُوهُ قَلِيلٌ سُؤَّالُهُ ، الْعَمَلُ فِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ ، وَسَيَأْتِي زَمَانٌ ، قَلِيلٌ فُقَهَاؤُهُ كَثِيرٌ خُطَبَاؤُهُ ، كَثِيرٌ سُؤَّالُهُ قَلِيلٌ مُعْطُوهُ ، الْعِلْمُ فِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ صَدَقَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السَّمِينُ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ مُنْكَرُ الْحَدِيثِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ صَدَقَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السَّمِينُ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ مُنْكَرُ الْحَدِيثِ .
Hizam bin Hakim narrates from his paternal uncle this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "You are in a time in which the scholars are many and the orators few, those who give are many and those who ask are few; in this time acting is better than knowledge. Soon there will come a time in which the scholars will be few and the orators many, those who ask will be many and those who give will be few; in that time knowledge will be better than action."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Sadaqah bin Abdullah al-Samin, and he is da'if (weak) and munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected).
