Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 530

وَعَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " إِنَّكُمْ فِي زَمَانٍ عُلَمَاؤُهُ كَثِيرٌ خُطَبَاؤُهُ قَلِيلٌ ، مَنْ تَرَكَ فِيهِ عُشَيْرَ مَا يَعْلَمُ هَوَى ، وَسَيَأْتِي عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ يَقِلُّ عُلَمَاؤُهُ وَيَكْثُرُ خُطَبَاؤُهُ ، مَنْ تَمَسَّكَ فِيهِ بِعُشْرِ مَا يَعْلَمُ نَجَا " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَفِيهِ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يُسَمَّ .

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "You are in a time in which the scholars are many and the orators few. In this time, whoever abandons even the smallest tenth of what he knows will fall into Hell. Soon a time will come upon the people in which the scholars will be few and the orators many; in that time whoever holds on to a tenth of what he knows will be saved."
