Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Some approved men testified before me, and the most approved of them in my view is Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), (they stated) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade fasting on the day of Eid al-Fitr and the Day of Sacrifice.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith reported from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) is in the Sahih.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Hajjaj bin Nusayr, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy), saying: He makes mistakes. A group declared him da'if (weak).
