Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 5194

Sayyidah Maymunah bint Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that she said: "O Messenger of Allah! Instruct us about fasting." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is able to keep them should fast three days every month, for each day will be an expiation for ten of his sins, and he will be cleansed of his sins just as water cleanses (and cleans) a garment."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its chain is da'if (weak).
