وَعَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ : " ائْتِ قَوْمَكَ فَمُرْهُمْ أَنْ يَصُومُوا هَذَا الْيَوْمَ " . قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا أُرَانِي آتِيهِمْ حَتَّى يَطْعَمُوا ؟ قَالَ : " فَمُرْ مَنْ طَعِمَ مِنْهُمْ فَلْيَصُمْ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Asma' bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of Ashura the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me and said: "Go to your people and instruct them to fast today." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I think that by the time I reach them, they will already have eaten something." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Instruct whoever of them has eaten something to fast for the rest of the day."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
