Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4928

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was travelling. He made camp with his Companions, and meanwhile shade had been made over one of his companions, and that man was fasting. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by those people and asked: What is the matter with your companion? Is he in some pain? The people said: No, O Messenger of Allah! He is fasting. The narrator says: It was a hot day. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not righteousness that one should fast during travel.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
