Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4902

Sayyidah Layla (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of Sayyiduna Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated: I intended to observe a continuous fast (sawm al-wisal) joining two days together, but Sayyiduna Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) stopped me and stated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had forbidden it. He said: The Christians do this. Fast in the way Allah Almighty has commanded you, which is that you complete the fast until the night, and when the night comes, break your fast.
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded this narration. I have not found anyone who criticised the woman named Layla, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
