Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4666

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever spends on himself so that by it he may keep himself from (begging from people), that is charity; and whoever spends on his wife, his children and his household, that is charity."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. He recorded it with two chains, one of which is hasan (good).
