Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! To whom should I give the surplus of what Allah Almighty has granted me? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Begin with your mother, then your father, your sister, your brother, and then your nearest relatives in order of closeness; and do not forget the neighbours and those in need.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Abbad bin Ahmad al-Arzami, who is da'if (weak).
