Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4571

عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : إِنْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ لَيَأْتِي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسْلِمُ لِلشَّيْءِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا لَا يُسْلِمُ إِلَّا لَهُ ، فَمَا يُمْسِي حَتَّى يَكُونَ الْإِسْلَامُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik says: A man would come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and accept Islam only for some worldly benefit; that was his only reason for accepting Islam. But before evening came, Islam would have become dearer to him than the world and everything in it.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
