Sayyiduna Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent his father, Sayyiduna Abu Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him), to estimate the yield of the dates. A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Sayyiduna Abu Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) has fixed too much payment on us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Sayyiduna Abu Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O Abu Hathmah! Your cousin says that you have fixed too much payment on him." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I left a portion for his household, which he can feed to the needy, and I also left what the wind had knocked down." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your cousin has in fact given you more, and he has acted fairly."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Muhammad bin Sadaqah, and he is da'if (weak).
