Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) relates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among my companions there is one whom, after I die, I will never see and who will never see me." The narrator relates: When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was informed of this, he hurried to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said to her: I adjure you by Allah and ask: Am I one of those people? Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: No; but after you I will not declare anyone else free of it.
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it. Another narration of Abu Ya'la and Ahmad, which they reported from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), (has these words:) Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: O mother, I fear that the abundance of my wealth will destroy me, for I have the most wealth among Quraysh. Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O my son, spend (in the way of Allah)! For I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Among my companions there is one who, once I part from him, will never see me after that." After that the narrator mentioned the hadith as before. Its chain contains Asim bin Bahdalah, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but makes mistakes.
