Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 423

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went through the low part of the valley, while the people went towards the mountain pass. Meanwhile seven men came with their faces covered. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them, Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) was at that time leading the animal in front and Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) was driving it from behind. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take care of what is between the two of you." Those people did not do anything. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at those people and then said: "O Hudhayfah, do you know who these people are?" I said: Of them I recognise only the man with the red camel; I know that he is so-and-so.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) There is a hadith from him in the Sahih other than this one.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Talid bin Sulayman, whom al-Ijli declared thiqah (trustworthy) and said: There is no harm in him; he had Shi'i leanings and used to commit tadlis (concealing a link in the chain); a group of scholars declared him da'if (weak).
