Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was called to the funeral prayer of a man from the Ansar. When the bier was set down and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stepped forward to offer the funeral prayer for him, he turned around and asked: "Is there any debt owed by your companion?" The people said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah! Two dinars." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Offer the funeral prayer for your companion yourselves." Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Prophet of Allah! Paying his debt is my responsibility." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer for that man.
Imam Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
