Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a man died, leaving a debt of two dinars owed by him, with no means of paying it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to lead his funeral prayer and said: "Offer the funeral prayer for your companion yourselves." Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, came to him and said: "I will pay it on his behalf." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and offered the funeral prayer for that man.
Imam Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Utbah al-Kindi, whom I do not know.
