وَعَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " آيَاتُ الْمُنَافِقِ : إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ ، وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ ، وَإِذَا اؤْتُمِنَ خَانَ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ زَنْفَلٌ الْعَوْفِيُّ كَذَّابٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The signs of a hypocrite are: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is entrusted with something, he betrays the trust."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Zanfal al-Awfi, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
