وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : لَمَّا افْتَتَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَكَّةَ رَنَّ إِبْلِيسُ رَنَّةً اجْتَمَعَتْ إِلَيْهِ جُنُودُهُ فَقَالُوا : ايْئَسُوا أَنْ تَرَدُّوا أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَى الشِّرْكِ بَعْدَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا ، وَلَكِنِ افْتِنُوهُمْ فِي دِينِهِمْ ، وَأَفْشُوا فِيهِمُ النَّوْحَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ مُوَثَّقُونَ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Makkah, Iblis began to wail, and the members of his army gathered around him. They said: "Give up hope that after this day of yours you will turn the ummah of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) back to shirk; but you will put them to trial in their religion, and spread wailing among them."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
