Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 3750

Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The likeness of the believer is like an ear (of crops), which sometimes bends and sometimes stands upright. And the likeness of the disbeliever is like the pine tree, which falls (all at once), and it does not even realise it."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains Muhallab bin al-Ala', and I have not found anyone who mentions him. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: Some hadiths similar to this will come later in the chapter on manners (adab), and Allah knows best.
