وَعَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " إِذَا أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ قَوْمًا ابْتَلَاهُمْ فَمَنْ صَبَرَ فَلَهُ الصَّبْرُ وَمِنْ جَزَعَ فَلَهُ الْجَزَعُ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

Sayyiduna Mahmud bin Labid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When Allah Almighty loves a people, He puts them to trial. Whoever shows patience will receive (the reward of) patience, and whoever wails and laments will have (to face the distress of) lamenting."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
