Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 3733

Sayyiduna Abu Inabah al-Khawlani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty intends good for a servant, He puts him to trial, and when He puts him to trial, He wears him down." The people said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is meant by wearing him down?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He does not leave him his family or his wealth."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibrahim bin Muhammad, who is al-Tabarani's teacher. Al-Dhahabi declared him da'if (weak) but did not mention a reason. The remaining narrators of this report have been declared trustworthy.
