Book of the Two Eids
بَابُ الْأَكْلِ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ قَبْلَ الْخُرُوجِ 3209 عَنْ عَطَاءٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ : إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَنْ لَا يَغْدُوَ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ حَتَّى يَطْعَمَ فَلْيَفْعَلْ قَالَ : فَلَمْ أَدَعْ أَنْ آكُلَ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَغْدُوَ مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُ ذَلِكَ مِنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَآكُلَ مِنْ طَرَفِ الصَّرِيقَةِ الْأَكْلَةَ وَأَشْرَبُ اللَّبَنَ أَوِ الْمَاءَ فَقُلْتُ : عَلَى مَا تَأَوَّلَ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : سَمِعَهُ أَظُنُّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " كَانُوا لَا يَخْرُجُونَ حَتَّى يَمْتَدَّ الضُّحَى فَيَقُولُونَ : نَطْعَمُ لِئَلَّا نَعْجَلَ عَنْ صَلَاتِنَا " رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ وَرَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ .

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : مِنَ السُّنَّةِ أَنْ تَطْعَمَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ وَلَوْ بِتَمْرَةٍ رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَالْكَبِيرِ وَلَفْظُهُ : مِنَ السُّنَّةِ أَنْ لَا تَخْرُجَ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ حَتَّى تُخْرِجَ الصَّدَقَةَ وَتَطْعَمَ شَيْئًا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ وَإِسْنَادُ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ حَسَنٌ وَفِي إِسْنَادِ الْبَزَّارِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: It is the Sunnah that you eat something before going out (for the Eid prayer), even if it is only one date.
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. His wording is: "It is the Sunnah that on the day of Eid al-Fitr you do not go out until you have given sadaqat al-fitr and eaten something before going out." The chain of al-Tabarani is hasan (good), and the chain of al-Bazzar contains a narrator whom I do not know.
