Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to eat something on the day of Eid al-Fitr before going out.
Abu Ya'la, Ahmad, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it. The wording of his narration is: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to eat something on the day of Eid al-Fitr before going (to the prayer), and he would order the people to do the same." The chain of al-Tabarani contains al-Waqidi, who has been heavily criticised, and before him is Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil, who has also been criticised, though he has been declared trustworthy.
