Ata narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) say: "If you are able, do not go out (for the Eid prayer) on the day of Eid al-Fitr before eating something." Ata said: Ever since I heard this from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), I make sure to eat something before going out, even if I only eat the edge of a thin flatbread and drink milk or water. I asked: "What did he intend by this?" He said: "I think I heard him relate it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); he said: 'They would not go out until the day had advanced, and they would say: We eat something so that we are not troubled during our prayer.'"
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih; al-Tabarani also recorded it.
