وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ - قَالَ : جَاءَ قَوْمٌ بِصَاحِبِهِمْ إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالُوا : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، إِنْ صَاحِبَنَا هَذَا قَدْ أَفْسَدَهُ الْحَيَاءُ ، فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْحَيَاءَ مِنْ شَرَائِعِ الْإِسْلَامِ ، وَإِنَّ الْبَذَاءَ مِنْ لُؤْمِ الْمَرْءِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ وَثَّقَهُمُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Some people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bringing a companion of theirs and said: "O Prophet of Allah! Modesty has ruined this companion of ours." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, modesty is part of the laws of Islam, and immodesty comes from a man's baseness."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Imam Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) declared its narrators thiqat (trustworthy).
