Sayyiduna Amr bin al-Hamiq (may Allah be pleased with him) states that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A person cannot find pure faith until he loves someone for the sake of Allah Almighty and hates someone for the sake of Allah Almighty. When he loves for the sake of Allah Almighty and hates for the sake of Allah Almighty, he becomes deserving of friendship (wilayah). (In a hadith qudsi, Allah Almighty has said:) 'Among My servants, My friends (awliya'), and among My creation, My beloved ones, are those who are mentioned along with My mention, and I am mentioned along with their mention.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Rishdin, and he is da'if (weak).
