Sayyiduna Amr bin al-Jamuh (may Allah be pleased with him) states that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A servant does not become worthy of pure faith until he loves someone for the sake of Allah Almighty and hates someone for the sake of Allah Almighty. When he loves for the sake of Allah Almighty and hates for the sake of Allah Almighty, he becomes deserving of the friendship (wilayah) of Allah Almighty. (And in a hadith qudsi, Allah Almighty says:) 'Among My servants, My friends (awliya'), and among My creation, My beloved ones, are those who are mentioned when I am mentioned, and I am mentioned when they are mentioned.'"
Imam Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Rishdin bin Sa'd, and it is munqati' (broken) and da'if (weak).
