Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 305

It is reported about Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the best (form of) faith, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That you love for the sake of Allah Almighty, hate for the sake of Allah Almighty, and use your tongue in the remembrance of Allah." Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "O Messenger of Allah! And what else?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That you like for people what you like for yourself, and dislike for people what you dislike for yourself."
In another narration these words are added: "And that you speak good or else remain silent."
The first narration contains Rishdin bin Sa'd and the second contains Ibn Lahi'ah, and both of these narrators are da'if (weak). Imam Ahmad recorded both narrations.
