وَعَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ : قُلْنَا لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ : حَدِّثْنَا بِمَا سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَرَأَيْتَ مِنْهُ وَلَا تُحَدِّثْنَا عَنْ غَيْرِكَ وَإِنْ كَانَ ثِقَةً قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " مَا بَيْنَ السُّرَّةِ إِلَى الرُّكْبَةِ عَوْرَةٌ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَفِيهِ أَصْرَمُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Imam Abu Ja'far Muhammad bin Ali (that is, Imam al-Baqir) says: We said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him): Narrate to us a hadith that you heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself, or something you saw of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and do not narrate to us anything on the authority of anyone other than yourself, even if that other person is thiqah (trustworthy). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The area between the navel and the knees is what must be covered ('awrah)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Asram bin Hawshab, who is da'if (weak).
