Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) states: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the mu'adhdhin giving the adhan, he would recite (that is, after the adhan he would make this supplication): "O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and of the prayer that is established as its result, send blessings upon Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and grant him on the Day of Resurrection what he has asked for." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would make those around him hear these words (by reciting them aloud), and he liked them to make a similar supplication when they heard the mu'adhdhin. He said: "Whoever hears the mu'adhdhin and (after the adhan is complete) says words like these, the intercession of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) becomes due for him on the Day of Resurrection."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Sadaqah bin Abdullah al-Samin, whom Imam Ahmad, Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him), Imam Muslim and others declared da'if (weak), while Duhaym, Abu Hatim and Ahmad bin Salih al-Misri declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
