Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 18634

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him to Yemen. When he came to those people, he said: "O people, I am the envoy of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to you, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has informed you: 'The return is to Allah, to Paradise or to Hell; an everlasting life without death, and an abode without departure.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and something similar in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, in which he added these words: "In bodies that will not die." The chain of al-Mu'jam al-Kabir is jayyid (good), except that the narrator Ibn Sabit did not meet Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The narrator missing between the two is Amr bin Maymun al-Awdi, as Imam al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it in "al-Mustadrak" at the end of Kitab al-Iman. His chain contains Muslim bin Khalid al-Zanji, and al-Hakim said after it: This hadith is sahih in its chain; its narrators are people of Makkah, and Muslim bin Khalid al-Zanji is the imam and mufti of the people of Makkah, except that the two Shaykhs (that is, Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and Imam Muslim) held that hadith was not his field; and Allah knows best.
