Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 18558

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The last of those to come out of Hell will be two people. Allah Almighty will say to one of them: 'O son of Adam, what did you prepare for this day? Did you ever do any good? Did you place any hope in Me?' That man will reply: 'No, O my Lord.' He will be ordered to be taken to Hell, and he will be the one suffering the most intense regret among the people of Hell. He (the Lord) will ask the other: 'Did you ever do any good? Or did you place any hope in Me?' That man will say: 'Yes, O my Lord. I hoped that if You brought me out (of Hell), You would not put me back into it.' And he will be the last person to enter Paradise."
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it, and he (al-Bazzar) recorded these additional words: "Did you fear Me?" Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Ali bin Zayd, and he is hasan al-hadith (good in hadith).
