Al-Hasan says: Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), while delivering a sermon to us on the pulpit of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "On the Day of Resurrection Allah Almighty will explain His reasons to Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) regarding three matters. Allah Almighty will say: 'O Adam, were it not that I have cursed those who lie, that I dislike lying and breaking promises, and that I have given a warning about it, I would today have had mercy on all your offspring, because of the severity of the punishment I have prepared for them. But this word from Me is true: if My Messengers are denied and My command is disobeyed, I will fill Hell with jinn and humans together.' Allah Almighty will say: 'O Adam, know that I will not admit any individual of your offspring into Hell, nor punish any one of them with the Fire, except the one about whom I know that if I returned him to the world, he would do even worse deeds than before; he would not turn back and would not reform.' Allah Almighty will say: 'O Adam, I appoint you as arbiter between Me and your progeny. Stand by the Scale and observe which of their deeds are presented to you. Whoever's good exceeds his evil by the weight of a speck will receive Paradise, so that you may know that I will admit into Hell from among them only the wrongdoers.'"
Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains al-Fadl bin Isa al-Raqashi, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
