Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 18268

Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah narrates: My father said: We spent a period with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in which our only food was the two black things. Then he said: Do you know what is meant by the two black things? I replied: No! He said: Dates and water.
Ahmad, al-Bazzar, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded this narration; the narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Bistam bin Muslim, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
