وَعَنْ عُلَيِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ يَقُولُ : لَقَدْ أَصْبَحْتُمْ وَأَمْسَيْتُمْ تَرْغَبُونَ فِيمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَزْهَدُ فِيهِ ، أَصْبَحْتُمْ تَرْغَبُونَ فِي الدُّنْيَا ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَزْهَدُ فِيهَا ، وَاللَّهِ مَا أَتَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَيْلَةٌ مِنْ دَهْرِهِ إِلَّا كَانَ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ أَكْثَرُ مِنَ الَّذِي لَهُ . قَالَ : فَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : قَدْ رَأَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَسْتَلِفُ .
وَقَالَ غَيْرُ يَحْيَى : وَاللَّهِ ، مَا مَرَّ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - ثَلَاثَةٌ مِنَ الدَّهْرِ إِلَّا وَالَّذِي عَلَيْهِ أَكْثَرُ مِنَ الَّذِي لَهُ .
وَقَالَ غَيْرُ يَحْيَى : وَاللَّهِ ، مَا مَرَّ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - ثَلَاثَةٌ مِنَ الدَّهْرِ إِلَّا وَالَّذِي عَلَيْهِ أَكْثَرُ مِنَ الَّذِي لَهُ .
Ulayy bin Rabah narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: "Today you spend your mornings and evenings in such a state that you pursue the things you desire from this (world), regarding which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) adopted the way of abstinence. You spend your mornings desiring the world, while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to turn away from it. By Allah! No night came upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) except that what he owed was more than what was due to him." The narrator says: Some of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: We saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) borrowing. Narrators other than Yahya have transmitted these words: Three days never passed over the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) except that what he owed was more than what was due to him.
