Sayyiduna Aswad bin Asram (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Give me some advice." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Are you master of your hand?" (That is, is it under your control?) I said: "If I do not keep control over my hand, then over what will I keep control?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have control over your tongue?" I said: "If I do not keep control over my tongue, then over what will I keep control?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not stretch out your hand except toward good, and do not say with your tongue anything but what is good."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
