Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for the Battle of Tabuk, he travelled through the night, and shortly before dawn he halted. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal, guard the time of the prayer for us." He said: "Very well, O Messenger of Allah!" Sleep overcame Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) as well and he too fell asleep, and the rest of the people also slept, until the sun troubled them. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up and performed tayammum. He said to Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): "Call the adhan and call the iqamah." Sayyiduna Bilal asked: "Now?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes!" So they offered the prayer after the morning had advanced.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Kabir; apart from al-Tabarani's shaykh, all its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
