Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said from the pulpit, while people were around him: "O people, be modest before Allah Almighty with the modesty that is His due." A man submitted: O Messenger of Allah, we are modest before Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever among you is modest, let him not spend a night except with his appointed term between his eyes; let him guard the belly and what it contains, and the head and what it holds; let him remember death and (his body's) decay; and let him abandon the adornment of the world."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ibrahim bin Isma'il bin Abi Habibah, and he is matruk (abandoned).
