وَعَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَرَّ فِي بَعْضِ سِكَكِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَرَأَى رَجُلًا أَسْوَدَ مَيِّتًا ، قَدْ رَمَوْا بِهِ فِي الطَّرِيقِ ، فَسَأَلَ بَعْضَ مَنْ ثَمَّ عَنْهُ ! فَقَالَ : " مَمْلُوكُ مَنْ هَذَا ؟ " . قَالُوا : مَمْلُوكٌ لِآلِ فُلَانٍ ، فَقَالَ : " أَكُنْتُمْ تَرَوْنَهُ يُصَلِّي ؟ " . قَالُوا : كُنَّا نَرَاهُ أَحْيَانًا يُصَلِّي ، وَأَحْيَانًا لَا يُصَلِّي ، فَقَالَ : " قُومُوا فَاغْسِلُوهُ ، وَكَفِّنُوهُ " . فَقَامُوا فَغَسَّلُوهُ وَكَفَّنُوهُ ، وَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ ، فَلَمَّا كَبَّرَ قَالَ : " سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ " . فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ لَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، سَمِعْنَاكَ لَمَّا كَبَّرْتَ تَقُولُ : " سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ " . فَلِمَ قُلْتَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " كَادَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَنْ تَحُولَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ مِنْ كَثْرَةِ مَا صَلَّوْا عَلَيْهِ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ جَيِّدٌ .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed through one of the streets of Madinah, and there he saw the corpse of a black man that had been thrown down in the road. He asked: To which people does he belong? Then he asked: "Whose slave is this?" The people said: He belongs to the family of so-and-so. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did you see him praying?" They replied: Sometimes we saw him praying and sometimes we did not. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get up! Wash him! Shroud him!" They got up, washed him and shrouded him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and led his funeral prayer. When he said the takbir, he said: "Subhan Allah! Subhan Allah!" When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had completed the prayer, his Companions said to him: O Messenger of Allah! We heard you, when you said the takbir, saying: "Subhan Allah! Subhan Allah!" Why did you say "Subhan Allah! Subhan Allah"? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So many angels took part in his funeral prayer that they almost came between me and him."
