Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May the slave of the dinar perish, may the slave of the dirham perish, may the slave of the cloak perish, who, if he is given something, is pleased, and if he is not given, is displeased. May he perish and be turned upside down, and if a thorn pricks him, may it not be pulled out. And congratulations to the servant who takes hold of his horse's reins to go in the path of Allah, the hair of his head dishevelled and his feet covered in dust. If he is assigned to guard duty, he stands guard, and if he is assigned to the rearguard, he stays in the rearguard. (His outward worldly state is such that) if he intercedes, his intercession is not accepted, and if he asks permission to enter, he is not given permission." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it, but he did not record these words: "Congratulations to the servant" until the end; he did not record the words from here to the end, and he recorded it as a ta'liq (without a connected chain). Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
