Majma al-Zawaid 17673 — One who pleases people by angering Allah

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever seeks to be loved by people through what they like, and acts against the command of Allah Almighty, then when he presents himself before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will be angry with him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Sulayman bin Dawud al-Shadhakuni, and he is matruk (abandoned).
