بَابُ تَمَنِّي الْمَوْتِ لِمَنْ وَثِقَ بِعَمَلِهِ ، وَتَمَنِّيهِ عِنْدَ فَسَادِ الزَّمَانِ .
Wishing for death for one who trusts in his deeds, and wishing for it when times become corrupt

وَعَنْ أَبِي الْمُعَلَّى قَالَ : قَالَ الْحَكَمُ الْغِفَارِيُّ : يَا طَاعُونُ ، خُذْنِي إِلَيْكَ . فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ : بِمَ تَقُولُ هَذَا ؟ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " أَلَا لَا يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ " ؟ . قَالَ : قَدْ سَمِعْتُ مَا سَمِعْتُمْ ، وَلَكِنِّي أُبَادِرُ سِتًّا : بَيْعَ الْحُكْمِ ، وَكَثْرَةَ الشُّرَطِ ، وَإِمَارَةَ الصِّبْيَانِ ، وَسَفْكَ الدِّمَاءِ ، وَقَطِيعَةَ الرَّحِمِ ، وَنَشْوٌ يَكُونُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ ، يَتَّخِذُونَ الْقُرْآنَ مَزَامِيرَ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَأَبُو الْمُعَلَّى لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
Abu al-Mu'alla narrates: Sayyiduna al-Hakam al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O plague, take me into your grip! One of the men present said to him: Why are you saying this? Have you not heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Beware! None of you should ever wish for death"? Sayyiduna al-Hakam al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I too have heard just as you have heard, but I wish to depart from the world before six things appear: the selling of judicial rulings, an abundance of police (enforcers), the rule of children, the shedding of blood, the violation of the rights of kinship, and the emergence at the end of time of people who will make the Qur'an into singing.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; I do not know the narrator named Abu al-Mu'alla, and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
