بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي طُولِ عُمُرِ الْمُؤْمِنِ ، وَالنَّهْيِ عَنْ تَمَنِّيهِ الْمَوْتَ .

وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَا تُمَنَّوُا الْمَوْتَ ; فَإِنَّ هَوْلَ الْمُطَّلَعِ شَدِيدٌ ، وَإِنَّ مِنَ السَّعَادَةِ أَنْ يَطُولَ عُمْرُ الْعَبْدِ ، وَيَرْزُقَهُ اللَّهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - الْإِنَابَةَ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالْبَزَّارُ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not wish for death, for the terror of the place of emergence (perhaps meaning the life after death, or the Day of Resurrection) is severe; and it is part of good fortune that a servant's life is long and that Allah Almighty grants him (the ability to) turn back (that is, to repent)."
